Insect Poets Share Their Views at Geauga’s West Woods Nature Center

Sun 2/9 @ 3:30-4:30PM

Nature has inspired some of the greatest poets, from Williams Wordsworth to Robert Frost. But it’s easy to become mute in the face of the beauty of nature.

A good idea is to start small, and that’s what the Poetry in Nature program at Geauga Park District’s West Woods Nature Center will do. It will use poetry, images and music to explore several species of insects. Naturalists Linda Gilbert and Tami Gingrich will share poems about insects told from the point of view of the insects themselves.

“While reading through the poems in preparation for this program, I was surprised by the emotional reaction I had to one entitled ‘Chrysalis Diary’ – and it’s not even a sad poem,” says Gilbert.

“This is a playful way to portray different insect species,” adds Gingrich, “and we hope that people will come away with a new perspective on each of them.”

Registration isn’t required for the free program, which is family-friendly for all ages.
