Artist Shows Work Inspired by Nature at the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes

Thu 1/5 @ 5:30-7PM

Susan Squires’ work is well known to area art lovers. It’s been widely shown and she’s represented by the prestigious Bonfoey Gallery downtown. Her mostly encaustic-based work with mixed-media elements revolves around geometric shapes such as circles, squares and rectangles and lines, in an infinite array of semi-abstract patterns.

She’ll be showing a new body of work at the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes, opening with a reception on January 5. It features 20 panels on wood with encaustic, other media and found objects, along with smaller works in wood.

“For many years my goal has been to create encaustic paintings as meaningful, evocative, and inspirational experiences for myself and the viewer,” she says in her artist statement.” I want them to be quiet meditations with thoughtful psychological and spiritual implications. The small works in this exhibition are responses to my love of Nature. They include tree slices, rocks, shells and other found objects and are mainly based on the circle, which among other things, is a metaphor for centering on essence.”

The reception is free and open to all.
