Sun 4/14 @ 4PM
Cleveland-based pianist Halida Dinova, winner of several international competitions and internationally acclaimed recording artist will be presenting a unique solo program “Great Piano Miniatures” for the audiences of all ages and listening experiences.
The pieces on the program span centuries of music history — from Bach to Scarlatti, then through the romantic miniatures telling a story of adventure and deep emotions by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schubert and Chopin, to the descriptive music of Tchaikovsky’s “April Snow Flower.” It also includes the beloved soundscapes of Rachmaninov and Prelude Op. 17 by Scriabin, which depicts the music of the stars, and stormy seascape in Scriabin’s Etude, and a rarely heard elegant dance-like pizzicato piece by Brahm.
You’ll also hear the majestic piece of the religious music “The Legend” by Franz Liszt. It’s a rare sound picture of St.Francis of Paula crossing the straits of Messina by walking on the waters, a miracle Gregory XIII caused to be depicted in a painting on the Hall of Vatican. which inspired Liszt to create his sound picture of the event. And the concert takes place in the perfect setting for such a piece: the ornate St. James Catholic Church in Lakewood.
If even there are many pieces on the program, the duration of each of the two parts is 35 minutes. Come and escape to the magical world of piano miniatures — it’s free and open to all, although free-will donations will be very welcome. The program is followed by refreshments and the chance to meet Dinova and purchase her CDs.
