Mon 1/15 @ 11AM-5PM
Each year on MLK Day, museums across the region not usually open on Monday are open, providing an opportunity for a different (and hopefully more immediate) type of education. And many, including the Maltz Museum, are free on this day.
You can see all of its regular exhibits including the permanent exhibit on the Jewish immigrant experience with a focus on Jews who settled in Cleveland and the current special exhibit The Girl in the Diary: Searching for Rywka from the Lodz Ghetto, based on a journal kept by a teenage Jewish girl in Poland during World War II.
There’ll also be hands-on activities for kids, and at 1pm a keynote speech by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and Shaker Heights native Wesley Lowery, followed by a book signing of his new book American Whitelash: A Changing Nation and the Cost of Progress which addresses “the cyclical pattern of violence that has marred every moment of racial progress in this country and whose bloodshed began anew following Obama’s 2008 election.”
