There are a lot of changes going down in the Waterloo Arts District, with several businesses closing and/or making changes. Don’t worry; others are growing and there’s plenty going on that you should check out during the December Walk All Over Waterloo, no matter how cold or blustery it is.
John Farina and Adam Tully closed their storefront gallery in the area earlier this fall. But their Maria Neil Art Project lives on as a curatorial moveable feast. This month, they’re presenting an exhibit of found object assemblages by Bridget Ginley at Six Shooter Coffee. The work is all cash and carry, so arrive early and start your walk there.
Then head around the corner to BRICK Ceramic + Design for their holiday sale preview party from 6-9pm with gift-worthy creations from all the artists who regularly work at the studio.
Walk a little farther west to Waterloo Arts (don’t forget to stop at Blue Arrow Music and Music Saves to pick up some records and music-related items and Star Pop to check out the vintage toys) where, from 6-9pm you can pose in front of a series of prepared photo walls for a shot to include in your holiday cards.
Across the street on E. 156th is the Satellite Gallery, and you’ll want to stop in between 5-9pm and say farewell to curator Grace Wen who is moving on to another gig and another neighborhood (don’t worry; the native Californian is staying in town!) Her final show is dubbed Escape Velocity and will feature installations by Caitlin Crum, Cecilia Peters and Kelly Pontoni.
Then hit Article for its annual holiday craft show, packed with handmade gifts by area artists. It’s open from 4-10pm.
Finally, head across the street to Praxis Fiber Workshop, which is hosting a exception from 6-9pm for Dark Frontier featuring new clothing-based work by Cleveland-based artist Krista Tomorowitz.
