The next production from Cleveland’s Hispanic LatinUs Theater Company revolves around “A married couple that society marks as a role model. She is a television channel presenter, and he is a media lawyer. Both feed our daily terrorism with their prejudices and contempt. A daily terror, light, competitive, and fashionable.”
Sounds like Fox “news” to us!
But during the course of the play, a dark comedy called Tu Ternura Molotov, the couple’s public lives start to impact their personal life. “Throughout the couple’s interactions, we explore topics such as religion, racism, and xenophobia,” says the play’s promotion. At the pure rhythm of comedy, a wild, crazy work without pauses to talk about our greatest terror, the meaning of identity, and the knowledge that we will never be able to know the person next to us.”
Tu Ternura Molotov was written by Venezuelan playwright/fiction writer/theater director Gustavo Ott, author of more than 50 plays which have been performed internationally. This production is directed by Monica Torres, who is also the founder and executive artistic director of LatinUs Theater. It will be performed in Spanish with English supertitles. Because of partial nudity, suggestive sexual content, hate speech, violence and racism, the play is 16 and over only.
It’s performed at the LatinUs space at the Pivot Center for Art, Dance and Expression, through March 3. Get tickets here.
