Vocalist Denise Jannah is from Suriname in South America and lives in Amsterdam. Pianist Amina Figarova is originally from Azerbeijan but is currently based in New York City. The two jazz musicians have come together across miles and cultures to collaborate frequently as a duo, in addition to their other projects.
Looking forward to the centennial of legendary jazz vocalist Ella Fitzgerald’s birth in 2017, Jannah has been touring her play Ella! in which she plays the title role. When Jannah and Figarova come to Nighttown, they’ll be performing some of Ella’s music, along with their own compositions. Tickets are $15.
