Yellowcake is a fashion business located right here in Cleveland, the brainchild of Cleveland-based designer Valerie Mayen, who encourages American-made “slow fashion,” timeless clothes you can wear over many seasons.
Now she’s bringing back her two-day “Hi Fashion” event, which encourages sustainable fashion practices. Taking place outside Yellowcake’s retail location on the Ramp Level of 78th Street Studios, its centerpiece is a “massive” clothing swap, to which attendees are invited to bring laundered garments to share: stuff you’re tired of, stuff that never fit right, stuff you don’t wear now that you don’t going the office as much. Since it’ll be in the spacious event space, there’ll be plenty of room to social distance.
There’ll also be free alterations and lessons from expert seamstresses on how to mend your own clothes. Special guests will be providing advice on secondhand shopping, printing upcycled t-shirts, and sketching your own fashion illustration portrait. There’ll be free sweets, noshes & coffee too, and a raffle on Sunday.
It’s free to attend; masks are encouraged for all – and Yellowcake has some cute ones available for sale.
