Pioneering Philly Graffiti Artist Cornbread Comes to CLE for Graffiti HeArt Benefit Weekend

Sat 6/15 @ 6-10PM

Graffiti HeArt, the nonprofit that provides scholarships for young street-style artist and hooks practicing artists up with paying work, is hosting an array of events for its tenth anniversary, with a visit from yet another graffiti art legend, Philadelphia’s Cornbread, often considered the first contemporary graffiti artist. He was active in his hometown starting in the late t60s, when he was in his mid teens, tagging his own name.

He’ll spend the day from 10am-3pm doing Youth Stencil Graffiti Workshops, then join the big fundraising event from 6-10pm at Graffiti HeArt’s gallery space on Superior Avenue at East 49th Street. The event includes a lot of the usual — food, drinks, DJs playing music for dancing. But it also features local artists painting pieces at the event for the silent auction. Cornbread will be sharing his story and signing and selling his one-of-a-kind artifacts.

He’ll also be joining a graffiti bus tour of Cleveland on Sunday but that’s probably sold out. Get tickets to the Saturday fundraiser party here.
