Artist Asia Armour Celebrates the Glamour of Black Women

Sat 3/26 @ 3-7PM

Local photographer Asia Armor has created a new set of works, called In Bloom, for her upcoming solo show, using a layered collage effect to create layers of meaning in strikingly beautiful images of positivity and hope. She says that she “uses notable black women from history, in combination with personal letters to tell the story or growth and resilience in front of floral compositions showing the beauty of life in bloom.”

Her show celebrates such black women as Eartha Kitt and Josephine Baker, in a style similar to the one in which Andy Warhol repurposed Marilyn Monroe to add another layer of iconography. She uses floral designs to represent the glamour these black women conveyed.

The show goes on view at Deep Roots Art Experience in the Fairfax Neighborhood with a reception Saturday March 26 @ 3-7pm. Stop in to see this relatively new gallery dedicated primarily to local black artists, and meet the artist.
