Convergence-continuum theater’s Tweener Series is so named because these one-weekend-only pop-up productions are wedged into the schedule between the theater’s regular, longer-run productions. It gives new artists a forum and veteran artists the change to experiment with new things, and it gives both a chance to get audience feedback on a work still undergoing development.
This weekend, they’ll be presenting A Perfect Day Away, written by northeast Ohio playwright Klae Bainter, directed by Roberto Di Donato and featuring actors Philip C. Matthews and Tyler Everett Adams. Bainter has an MFA in playwriting from Ohio University and was part of convergence-continuum’s 2019 NEOMFA Playwrights’ Festival so while he’s an emerging artist, he’s not inexperienced. What’s the play about? The synopsis says, “Dylan has lost his cat, his confidence, and the simple ability to leave his apartment. Though, no matter how hard he tries can’t seem to lose the delivery guy hanging around his home. A Perfect Day Away is a dark, funny, and unflinching attempt to answer the question, ‘wouldn’t it be great to get just one do over?’”
Hopefully that means the cat is found. Bainter’s bio says “He lives with an obnoxious orange cat.” There’ll be a talkback following the Friday evening performance. The performances take place at c-c’s home the Liminis. Get tickets here.
