CPT Presents “Post-Roe Monologues” to Fire You Up to Vote YES on November 7

Sat 10/7 @ 7:30PM

Sun 10/8 @ 3PM

Atlanta, Georgia-based ob/gyn Dr. Mimi Zieman is a long-time reproductive rights activist who has worked with Planned Parenthood and co-authored sixteen editions of Managing Contraception. So naturally she was chagrined when the U.S Supreme Court overturned Ro v. Wade in the Dobbs decision of June 2022.

Her response? She wrote a theater piece called The Post-Roe Monologues, which debuted in August 2022 and has had multiple performances around the country, as  the mostly male voices in the media who said women would quickly get over being stripped of their human rights and reduced to reproductive chattel were proven wrong.

Next up for The Post-Roe Monologues: Cleveland Public Theatre. There local theater veteran Jacqi Loewy will direct a staging of the work, which is based on the author’s experiences in her practice.

“I saw a workshop reading on July 31st, 2023 of The Post-Roe Monologues in New York City,” says executive producer Jeffrey Glover. “I knew that it would provide audiences an opportunity to empathize with the many characters Mimi Zieman has created and brought to life. And I knew that Ohio was addressing many challenges in regard to getting Issue 1 passed and above all, getting people out to vote AND to vote YES. I felt a collaboration with Cleveland Public Theatre and Raymond Bobgan, working with area artists like Jacqi Loewy and some extraordinary sponsors committed to passing the upcoming Issue 1 on November 7th, would be a great opportunity to bring people together.”

It takes place at Gordon Square Theatre. It’s free and tickets aren’t needed. Each of the two performances will be followed by a talkback. Retired pediatrician Dr. Arthur Lavin, chair of DOHCS, a group of Cleveland doctors organizing for political justice, will lead the Saturday talk. Sunday’s talkback will be led by Dr. Jane Corteville, director of prenatal genetic services at University Hospitals.
