Funkyard X Raises the BOP STOP Roof With 70s Synth/Funk-Inspired Sound

Fri 9/7 @ 8PM

Cleveland’s Funkyard Experiment, aka Funkyard X, was founded by synth player Steve Johnson five years ago to build on the electro/funk/dance sound created by such ’70s and ’80s pioneers as Earth Wind & Fire, Roger & Zapp and Rick James, along with other artists such as James Brown, Jimi Hendrix and Michael Jackson.

Mixing in some jazz, gospel and classic sound, the nine-piece ensemble with its mix of heavy synths and horns, has been filling dance floors and getting feet tapping at venues all over town, including Tri-C JazzFest.

They’ll be performing at the BOP STOP for an intimate show that’s sure to be roof-raising. And stick around afterward — bring your instrument if you’re a player yourself — for the monthly late night jazz jam at 11.

Admission is $20.
