Author/Journalist Talks About the Opioid Crisis & Its Origin @ The City Club

Tue 11/15 @ 11:30PM

Authors Scott Higham and Sari Horwitz are both seasoned, Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post journalists. This past summer they published American Cartel: Inside the Battle to Bring Down the Opioid Industry, which told the story of the opioid crisis of the past several decades.

It details how big pharmaceutical companies created the crisis by pushing its pain pills, even when the scope of the human damage and deaths left in their wake became obvious, their callous attitude toward those dying, how they used lawyers, lobbyists and campaign donations to assure government inaction, how a few dogged investigators exposed the drug companies, and the ultimate court battles to try to hold them accountable.

Sari Horwitz will be at the City Club to talk about the book, the investigative work that went into it, and what they future looks like for justice for those impacted by this deliberately created (for profit) crisis. Horwitz will also be signing books after the forum; they’ll be available for sale onsite courtesy of Mac’s Backs.

You can also listen to the forum via livestream. Questions can be tweeted to @TheCityClub or texted to 330-541-5794.
