Fri 10/14 @ 8PM
As we announced back in August, Gabe Pollack, director of the BOP STOP since it opened as a nonprofit performance venue of The Music Settlement eight years ago, has taken a job as Director of Performing Arts at the Cleveland Museum of Art. He had built its from scratch into one of the city’s liveliest and most diverse venues, and was bound to be moving on to other challenges eventually. Fortunately, it didn’t take too long for the BOP STOP to find a replacement in our own backyard: jazz musician/educator Bryan Kennard. And with Gabe at CMA, Northeast Ohio will still be benefiting from his talents.
Meanwhile, this is the week he makes the switch and the BOP STOP is inviting people down to celebrate the venue’s 8thAnniversary and Gabe’s last show there. Doing the musical honors is pianist Jackie Warren’s Latin Jazz Quartet — percussionist Sammy DeLeon (whose big band she plays with regularly), sax player Chris Burge and bassist Kip Reed, “and friends,” which leaves the door open to potential surprises.
Tickets to be in the house are $20. You can also listen to the show streamed online on the BOP STOP’s social media where you can leave a donation at givebutter.com/EightYears.
The concert will be followed by a free jam session at 10:30pm. Maybe Gabe will be persuaded to play a little trumpet, maybe even with flute player Kennard.
