New York-based classical pianist Simone Dinnerstein attracted attention when self-financed her recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations, eventually released on the Cleveland-based Telarc label in 2007 and becoming a best seller, shooting to #1 on Billboard’s classical music chart.

But she’s not a mere novelty, selling records on her interesting story and her attractive looks. She’s been playing since was little and studied with legendary teacher Maria Curcio in London and attended Juilliard. She now records for Sony and in addition to classical releases, she’s put out a collaboration with country/folk singer-songwriter Tift Merritt. Her latest release, last year’s Broadway-Lafayette, included Maurice Ravel’s Piano Concerto, George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, and a new concerto composed for her by Phillip Lasser.

Dinnerstein will be playing a free concert at the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Gartner Auditorium, presented by Tri-C. She’ll play Philip Glass’s Metamorphosis 1 and Etudes 2, 6 and 16, and Franz Schubert’s Impromptus & Sonata in b-flat.
