It’s clear that this time, it’s not going away. The cries for racial justice have become too loud, too persistent — and too universal. Millions of white eyes have been opened as protests against police brutality have been met with even more police brutality, openly directed at peaceful protestors in front of the entire nation and militarized law enforcement has treated U.S. citizens like the enemy.
And protests, vigils and demonstrations show no signs of stopping. Two of Cleveland’s diverse inner-ring suburbs will be the site of events this week.
On Wednesday June 10 @ 5pm, the community is invited to join Lakewood High School students for a Kneel In at Lakewood Park, 14532 Lake Avenue. Bring signs without stick, wear a mask and be open to sharing ideas. More info here.
On Saturday June 13 @ 3pm, the “No Justice, No Peace Walk” takes place in Shaker Heights at Shaker Square. They will walk peacefully and social distancing with signs, then lie down, kneel or stand in respectful silence for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. Sign up here to “join this peaceful gathering of women as we walk to demand justice for George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tamir Rice, and so many others whose lives were taken by racist violence.” Presumable peaceful men are welcome too.
