Rock Hall Announces Expansion Plans

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced a major expansion of its lakefront facility, along with the teams that will be designing and creating it. It’s named New York-based Practice for Architecture and Urbanism as the designer, overseeing a team including L’Observatoire International (lighting design), James Corner Field Operations (landscape, architecture, urban design) and Cooper Robertson (architects).

The expansion will offer more open space for events, performances and rentals, interactive learning classrooms, an onsite archives for visitors to make its collections more accessible to visitors, and an additional 10,000 square feet for larger scale exhibits. It also features an outdoor gathering space and the creation of a museum campus connecting it to Great Lakes Science Center. It’s expected to add 50,000 square feet to the 150,000 square-foot museum.

While the Rock Hall was open during much of the summer and fall, it is now temporarily closed due to the coronavirus upsurge.
