Ingenuity Fest Debuts Its Ignite! Neighbor Nights

Thu 4/15 @ 5-8PM

At this point, no one knows what things will be like in the fall or whether it would be possible to hold a festival like Ingenuity in September as usual. But the Ingenuity folks haven’t been sitting around over at Ingenuity Labs in the Hamilton Collaborative moaning and groaning about it. They’re busily creating, and they’ve just come up with a new monthly program to starting bringing people together — cautiously.

Ignite! Neighbor Nights will take place in different parts of the community on the third Thursday of each month through October, each with a different theme.

They kick off this week at the corner of East 55th and St. Clair, just up the street from the Hamilton Collaborative, with the theme “Sweet Street: Community Space & Visual Art.” The event will launch a months-long series of mural projects in the area, starting with priming the Lakeshore Bank Building for painting and sharing information about what the finished design, generated in partnership with Sankofa Fine Arts Plus, New Roots and Brando Graves Art, will look like. Visitors can come down and help out.

The Ingenuity Ingeneers will be on site, along with the Art Block Mobile Art Cart, offering hands-on activities. Michael McFarland Music and Fiercely Serene will be doing performances, and the SpliceCream Truck will be providing still more musical backdrop. You can also meet the folks from Rollin’ Buckeyez Foundation to learn how they “turn empty spaces into social places,” and chat with the street-inspired artists from Red Lion Tattooz & Kutz and artist Robin Robinson from Sankofa Fine Arts.

Ignite! is a free, family-friendly event.
