Celebrate World Water Day with a Project to Protect Clean Water Sources

Tue 3/22

Try to imagine what it’s like not to be able to turn the tap and have water for drinking, cooking or bathing. Imagine having to walk miles to fill vessels with the water you need.

World Water Day, sponsored by the United Nations since 1993, celebrates this precious resource. Its 2022 theme is “Groundwater — Making the Invisible Visible,” drawing attention to the source of almost all of the world’s liquid freshwater, found in aquifers underground.

“Groundwater is invisible, but its impact is visible everywhere,” they remind us. “Out of sight, under our feet, groundwater is a hidden treasure that enriches our lives.  Almost all of the liquid freshwater in the world is groundwater. As climate change gets worse, groundwater will become more and more critical.  We need to work together to sustainably manage this precious resource.” You can learn lots more here about the importance of groundwater and what you can do to help conserve it.

One way to get involved locally is to hook up with Cleveland-based nonprofit Drink Local. Drink Tap, which is involved in numerous clean water initiatives. Go here to find out what they’re doing.
