Painter Dana Oldfather Shows Moody Landscapes in Abattoir Solo Show

Sat 4/22 @ 6-8PM

The next show by noted Cleveland painter Dana Oldfather is called Violet Hour, a reference to her attentiveness to light and color and the moods they can evoke. Her work has evolved from abstraction to atmospheric landscapes that transform these outdoor scenes into reflections of states of mind.

As she says in her artist statement, “I communicate the dilemma of being, through landscape. I bring my insides to bear on the outside and trepidation colors the scene. The atmosphere in the images is like that of an evening, eclipse, or summer storm. In the waning light, a glow indicates something or someone approaching. I describe the moment just before a reckoning or upheaval; the moment before fate takes hold and changes everything.”

While Oldfather, whose work has been seen in New York, Chicago, Detroit and even Australia, has been part of a group show at the Abattoir gallery in the Hildebrandt Building, this will be her first solo show there. As the gallery says, “Violet Hour fittingly opens on April 22nd, Earth Day.” The reception is free and open to the public.
