Get a little taste of Tri-C Jazz Fest, coming up in July, this week. Master jazz bassist John Clayton, who will headline a show at the festival, is in town for a couple of events.
He’ll be at the Tri-C Metro campus Mainstage Theatre for a master class/interview event that will open with students from Tri-C and Oberlin performing with feedback from Clayton and his son, pianist Gerald Clayton, who’s an up-and-coming young jazz star with two Grammy nominations to his credit. Then the elder Clayton will sit down with legendary Cleveland-born producer Tommy LiPuma to talk about the projects they’ve worked on together with artists like Dr. John, Diana Krall and Jimmy Scott. It’s free and open to the public.
Then in the evening, father and son Clayton will perform at Nighttown as the John Clayton/Gerald Clayton Duo. Tickets are $20.
