Hard Truths with @JustinTEarle @KentStage

Mon 3/9 @ 8PM

Justin Townes Earle is his father’s son, for better and worse. That’s also reflected in the fact that he’s named after the legendary Texas songwriter/ performer Townes Van Zant. That’s a heavy legacy of musical talent — and self-abuse.

Although Earle did not grow up with his father Steve, the maverick country singer who left when he was a toddler, the love of music, as well as the love of drugs, was in his blood. He was drawn to both at an early age with the latter hampering his ability to pursue the former. Like his father’s, his musical career has been interrupted by stints in rehab.

Now 33 and sober, he recently released his sixth studio album Absent Fathers, which, like his album of last fall, Single Mothers, tells some unsparing truths about the way people stumble through life and the impact it has on the people around them. His music continues to have a country/folk feel pushed toward rock by his four-piece band.

They’ll be at the Kent Stage. Tickets are $21-$29.
