Fridays @ 7 @CleveOrchestra Offers Beethoven and World Music

Magda

Fri 3/13 @ 7PM

The Cleveland Orchestra’s Fridays @ 7 concerts aim to attract an audience that may not typically go to orchestra concerts by offering an experience that’s more than just two sections of music, listened to quietly and respectfully, divided by a short intermission where you quickly gulp a drink.

The evening starts early and goes late, and the classical concert part is shorter than is typical with no intermission, featuring a piece of music even non-classical music listeners will recognize: Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. The orchestra will warm up with Luca Francesconi’s short “Cobalt, Scarlet: Two Colors of Dawn.”

Before and after the concert, there will be more informal and freewheeling music-making. Greek singer/accordionist/ keyboard player/composer Magda Giannikou (pictured) will be performing with members of the world music collective Snarky Puppy, playing what’s described as “world chansons infused with South American grooves and a twist of jazz.” Food and drinks will be available during those parts of the evening.

Tickets are $70-$150.
