Sat 3/14 @ 8PM
Now 74, jazz drummer Billy Hart has played with a litany of greats. He performed with the bands of guitarist Wes Montgomery, organist Jimmy Smith, keyboard player Herbie Hancock, pianist McCoy Tyner, and sax player Stan Getz. The list of artists he recorded with is too lengthy to recount.
He’s also an educator who is an associate professor of jazz at Oberlin Conservatory. And he’s still playing. The Billy Hart Quartet features three musicians a generation or more younger than himself: tenor sax player Mark Turner, double bassist Ben Street and pianist Ethan Iverson. They’ve recorded a couple of well-received albums in the last several years. And they’ll be performing at Oberlin’s Finney Chapel.
Tickets are $15.
