It seems like northeast Ohio is crawling with gifted artists who provide their own distinctive takes on American roots music. Rebekah Jean and Demos Papadimas, who share the stage at Peninsula’s G.A.R. Hall as part of its Voices in the Valley series, are two more. Jean combined rural and urban sensibilities in her rockin’ alt-country with a debut album Love May Be Real But It Ain’t Enough, produced by David Mayfield, released in 2012 and another on the way. She’s glammed up her personal self-presentation recently without losing the authenticity and unaffected, earnest emotionalism in her music, which draws primarily on traditional country. Artists like Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette already showed us how well that can work. Youngstown-based singer/songwriter/guitarist/bouzouki player Papadimas reaches farther afield than the rural American South for his influences, bringing in Mediterranean, Eastern European gypsy music and the almost inescapable influence of Bob Dylan. Admission is $5. rebekahjean.org/ demospapadimas.com/ peninsulahistory.org/voices-in-the-valley/
