Cleveland’s Beaucoup never quite hit the big time, although their sound, a combination of epic rockers and swelling ballads, dominated by thick, lush vocal harmonies and the dual lead vocals of the Amato Brothers Tommy and Frank, was tailor-made for the ’80s. Alas, they were yet another group stymied by behind-the-scenes music biz stuff.
But tunes like “Somewhere Out in Night,” “Jane,” “Born & Raised on Rock & Roll,” “Sweet Rachel” and “Still in my Heart,” written by keyboard player Dennis Lewin, were local radio favorites for many years and still fondly remembered by a certain generation.
The band is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its formation with a gala show at the Hard Rock Rocksino. For the occasion, it’ll be bringing some special guests. It will reunite WMMS morning team of Jeff Kinsbach and Ed “Flash” Ferenc, who dominated the market for a decade and a half, to emcee the show. And they’ll be joined onstage by a pair of guitarists from a slightly earlier and slightly later generation: Wally Bryson of the ’70 power pop band the Raspberries and Neil Zaza, who has forged an international career as a solo guitarist since leaving behind his self-named band in the early ’90s.
Tickets are $25-$45.
