Singer/songwriter/guitarist/keyboard player Morgan Mecaskey first impacted the area music scene fronting indie folk band Tinamou. But in the last few years, we’ve been hearing more of her personal side, both with and without a band, since she released her debut album Righteous Kind in 2012.
There’s a casual maturity to her singing and her performances, a knowing sense that can be by turns, wry, earnest and ironic. If you like delicately girlish or “angelic” singers, Mecaskey won’t be your cup of tea. She’s got the sort of forceful, assured womanliness that makes singers like Chrissie Hynde and Patti Smith so powerful.
And — good news — Mecaskey has a brand-new album in her hands called Lover Less Wild . You can preview a track here.
She’ll be doing a coming-out show for it at the Grog Shop, with local newgrass band Honeybucket and Nonaphoenix opening.
Admission is $10 in advance, $12 day of show — and that includes a copy of the record.
