Kent-bred siblings Jessica Lea and David Mayfield grew up playing with their parents in their family folk/bluegrass band One Way Rider, a professional band that traveled around the country.

By the time they were in their mid-teens both were starting to spread their wings. Jessica, now 25, forged out on her own at 15 under the sobriquet Chittlin and grew into becoming one of the country’s most talented purveyors of dark-edged Americana. The fact that the Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach produced her debut album With Blasphemy So Heartfelt, released when she was 19, automatically attracted attention she was well able to deliver on. She released her third full-length album Make My Head Sing earlier this year.

Her older brother David, who performs with his band the David Mayfield Parade, spent some time as a sideman (including for his sister) before claiming some spotlight for himself with 2011’s The David Mayfield Parade. His new album Strangers shows a similar flair to his sister’s for combining traditional folk roots with contemporary indie rock and pop.

The two are taking time off from their individual careers to do a short “Sibling Rivalry” tour where rivalry will likely be in short supply as they revisit their roots and their own material in a stripped-down acoustic format. They’ll be close to home again at the Kent Stage.

Tickets are $14 in advance, $16 at the door.
