Cincinnati’s Over the Rhine have been regular visitors in Cleveland since the early ’90s. The husband-and-wife duo of Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist, who comprise the core of the band, have been exploring their lives and their relationship in hauntingly beautiful music for 25 years. Back in the ’90s, their pastoral often nostalgic musical style was sort of a small movement with bands like 10,000 Maniacs and the Innocence Mission, as well as Cleveland’s Walk-Ins.
Pared down to the essential duo, with other musicians tapped as needed, the band now releases its music on its own label in its own time. Early last year, it released a double set called Meet Me At the Edge of the World, a pensive reflection on Ohio history. This year, they’ve released a new Christmas record — their third — called Blood Oranges in the Snow, again exploring the magic and mystery of quotidian memories and attempting to pin down those wistful, fleeting moments that always seem on the verge of escaping out of reach.
They’ll perform at the Music Box Supper Club. Indianapolis folk duo Lily & Madeleine open.
Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door.
