Tue 10/13 @ 6-9PM

The Coit Road Farmers Market in East Cleveland has come a long way in the last decade to restoring its former glory. Originally a farmers co-op, it was founded in 1932 to provide farm-fresh products year round. It fell on some hard times at the end of the 20th century when flea market-type vendors outnumbered farmers.

The market became a nonprofit organization in 2001. Now local producers of edibles have retaken the market, the only year-round farmers market in Cleveland with its own dedicated building, and on any given Saturday morning (and Wednesdays in the summer) you can find fruits, vegetables, freshly baked breads, spices, and many more good things to eat.

To keep the market going through the winter months, it hosts its annual Taste of Autumn benefit, taking place at the Beachland Ballroom. The event, hosted by TV personality Fred Griffith, boasts quite a lineup of local chefs and food purveyors: the Beachland’s own Brian Doyle, Eric Wells of Ligali’s Bistro in Tremont, Ryan Cipriani of Angela-Mia Pizza, personal chef Robin Blair, Carol Wertheim of Le Creuset, Laura Adiletta of EatloCLE, John Selick of Ahuja Medical Center, Melissa Khoury of Saucisson, Paragon Wine, Martinis & Plates, and the Grovewood Tavern. They’ll be preparing a local harvest buffet, giving guests a chance to sample some of what’s been done around town with the bounty grown in or backyard.

Tickets are $35. You can snag them at the Coit Market or go to their website.
