Jam band fans take to bluegrass like they were born into it, as Jerry Garcia proved many decades ago. It embraces both the communal participatory spirit that’s at the heart of the jam band community and the virtuosity they love to groove on.
That accounts for the popularity and durability of jamgrass bands like Cabinet out of northeast Pennsylvania. The six-man group has built its sound on the country end of the jam scene, drawing heavily on bluegrass and other rootsy Americana sounds. Known as a great live band that gets people dancing, they naturally maintain a heavy festival schedule in the summer and even put on their own annual festival, the Susquehanna Breakdown, in Scranton, Pa.
They’re coming back to the Beachland Ballroom where they’ve built a little beachhead, so to speak. And banjo player Pappy Biondo has family right in the neighborhood so you know the enthusiasm level will be high.
They’ll be sharing the stage with Yellow Springs, Ohio bluegrass quartet Blue Moon Soup, who’ve built a strong regional touring base. They mention Jerry Garcia three times on their Facebook “About” page, so you know exactly where they are coming from.
Tickets are $12 in advance, $14 day of show.
