Sun 10/12 @ 3PM
It would have been hard to imagine when local musician Tracy Marie started her modestly scaled breast cancer benefit event 13 years ago that Breastfest would still be going strong to present its 14th edition.
Each year Breastfest features a lineup of some of the best female talent in town (men do appear onstage, mostly in backup roles), and this year it’s corralled an even greater number and variety of performers than in the past — still heavy on singer/songwriters but also including, blues, rock and Americana artists.
The show opens with a drum circle in the Music Hall and if you bring a hand drum to participate before 3pm, you get in free.
Tracy Marie herself is among the performers in the wine bar, along with Robin Stone, Quinn Sands & Anita Keys, Emily Keener, Taylor Lamborn, Rachel Roberts & the Beatnik Cowboys.
Over in the Music Hall, Roberts will do double duty performing with Babies in Black. You’ll also hear Maura Rogers & the Bellows, Alexis Antes, Cherylann Hawk & friend featuring Megan Clay Constantine, Kristine Jackson & Becky Boyd, and the Womacks. There’s a full schedule of times on the Breastfest website.
Tickets are $20 in advance. It’s important to note that the proceeds don’t go to some big national organization heavy on pink-ribbon marketing but rather to locally based charities such as the Barbara Leslie Fund at the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center that provide direct support to patients and their families and promote prevention and early detection.
