Fri 10/3 @ 5PM
Waterloo Road turns a major corner this month. The street construction was done a month ago and finishing touches, like landscaping and planters, have been going in. Anyone who goes to this edition of the monthly Walk All Over Waterloo will see a very different street than they’ve seen in the past (especially in the last 15 months). So this month is a major celebration.
The biggest news is the grand opening of Waterloo Brew inside the Slovenian Home where they’re putting on the final touches as we write (see above). The opening party takes place from 6-10pm with a dance party DJ’ed by Lawrence Daniel Caswell. Stop in and see the transformation that proprietor Alan Glazen has effected — with more on the way.
That might be the biggest news this month, but the street will be hopping from one end to the other. At the opposite end, from 5-9pm in the Waterloo Sculpture Garden, kids and adults alike can join in carving pumpkins for display in area businesses throughout the Halloween season. There’ll be a mini cookout and a Halloween movie screening outdoors as well. Scary!
There’s another grand opening being celebrated there too: Cyclops Tattoo Parlor, located in the building next to the sculpture garden. They’ll be celebrating both outside and in, so you can tour their facility and see the work they do.
Across the street from 6-9pm you’ll find Yarn N Yesterday, which will recreate a bit of the magic of the old Euclid Beach Amusement Park with free popcorn balls and candy kisses and organ music to dance to. There’ll also be a display of photos from Euclid Beach along with artists’ fiber panels and mixed-media pieces reflecting on the park, and a collaborative installation by artistis Allison Lukacsy and Chris Kucsar called “Sound Clouds” built audio clips of people’s recollections and stories about Euclid Beach.
Then head down to R+D Sausage, one of the street’s legacy businesses, where they’ll have food, drinks and music from 6-9pm. And don’t forget to stop in Music Saves where the last Alley Cat Friday will be happening with music from The Very Knees in the enclosed alley behind the stores, starting at 7pm.
Put on comfortable shoes and come ready to catch everything.
