Peninsula’s Music on the Porches Has a Traditional Flavor

Music on the Proches

Sat 9/27 @ 11AM

Another porchfest? Yes — another porchfest!

But Peninsula’s Music on the Porches has a different flavor than Cleveland’s Larchmere Porchfest or Akron’s Highland Square Porch Rockr. It’s more traditional, focusing on acoustic singer-songwriters, bluegrass, fiddle and banjo music, folk and even Native American music.

There’ll be performers at both private homes around Peninsula’s small, quaint downtown and at its downtown shops and galleries. If you get there early, for the 11am-1pm time slot, you can catch Sara Finan’s roots-based fiddle at the Log Cabin Gallery, Jon Mosey’s clawhammer banjo and Guitar at Heritage Farms, alt country/Americana singer Rebekah Jean at the Yellow Creek Trading Company, and folk performer John Weniger at Ohio Hardwood.

Among the performers on tap for later in the day at Sam Sapp doing children’s nature songs, Billy Crowbeak playing Native American woodland-style flute, folk guitarist/singer/composer Avin Loki Baird, and singer/songwriter Chris Allen.

With more of a downhome, D.I.Y. vibe, this porchfest also offers free workshops and demonstrations, where you can hang out, talk to, and interact with artists, and learn more about what they do. From 11-11:45 at the G.A.R. Hall
Hal Walker will share his collection of instruments from around the world. From 12:30-1:15pm, also at the G.A.R. Hall, Tina Bergman offers some tips on hammered dulcimer. At the same location from 1:40-2:30pm, Jon Mosey demonstrates how he gets at his Peidmont blues finger-picking style of guitar. And from noon-3pm at the Bronson Church, luthiers Doug Unger & Mark Ward will talk about making instruments that get a great sound.

This year’s event also includes local food vendors, and there’s always the opportunity to check out the town’s businesses. The music’s free; full schedule here.
