Since 2017, each fall Cleveland-based music photographers Joe Kleon and Anastasia Pantsios have partnered to put together a gallery show of their best work, with hundreds of images: Anastasia’s dating back to the 70s, Joe’s covering the last 20 years. These events have offered an opportunity for music fans to buy a print of that one unforgettable show or stock up on holiday gifts.
With the pandemic making packed gallery events unsafe, the two put their heads together and came up with Sonic & Iconic, a virtual exhibit that gave them a chance to dig even deeper into their archives and show even more photos. The past shows have had 300-400; the virtual galleries will have more than 1,100.
“Anastasia and I are very excited to be offering people a safe way to purchase unique holiday gifts, from the comfort of their own homes,” says Kleon. “We are also excited to be offering a lot of extras, by live streaming recorded interviews with Gabe Pollack from the Bop Stop and Cindy Barber from the Beachland Ballroom to see how they are fairing during this continued pandemic. We are also very excited to be live streaming and broadcasting, for the very first time, a two-part Michael Stanley Oral History, recorded at our galleries in 2013 and 2019. The combined running time of Michael’s oral history is three and a half hours and features many fascinating and funny stories as only Michael can tell them.”
A different gallery will be presented each night of Thanksgiving week, with a short introduction and video by the photographer and a link to purchase the photos. It kicks off on Monday November 23 with a gallery of classic superstars, followed on Tuesday November 24 by country greats. Wednesday November 25 is devoted to Michael Stanley and MSB, not only showcasing more than 100 photos dating back to the band’s earlier days, but also part one of an oral history with Michael.
On Thanksgiving Day Thursday November 26, you’ll get a heavy dose of heavy metal; Friday November 27 is devoted to pop and alternative, and Saturday November 28 at great rock & roll bands. It concludes Sunday November 29 with Cleveland-connected acts and the streaming of part two of the Michael Stanley oral history.
The galleries will include a link to the gallery where photos can be purchased. They’re hosted by Cleveland-based NEO Pro Imaging who will handle reproduction and shipping of all photos. This will allow buyers to choose the size of the reproduction they want
