Through November 6
Lake Erie Ink, based in Cleveland Heights, is a nonprofit founded to encourage people, particular youth, to write, draw, design and otherwise themselves through workshops, panels, camps, conferences and special events.
In 2020, after the pandemic hit, they came up with the Creative Community Challenge to encourage people to stay creative while in isolation. Open to all ages to submit all types of writing and art on a certain theme, each challenge (there were six) resulting in an anthology and a storefront display.
Quarantining is over, but Lake Erie Ink has come up with a new wrinkle on the project. It’s inviting people of all ages to submit recipes and the stories behind them, suggesting that food is another way people connect.
“Lake Erie Ink felt it was a natural fit to feature a cookbook, since the challenges bring community together just as food and cooking do,” they say. So Stirring Stories, as they’re calling it, will feature work from community members and Lake Erie Ink’s students but also submission from local chefs as well including Doug Katz (Zhug, Amba), Tommy Fello (Tommy’s), Shawnda Moye (The Bake Shop & Café), Melissa Khoury (Saucisson), Bridget Thibault (Luna Bakery & Café), and Jeremy Umansky (Larder).
The deadline for submission is November 6. Learn more about the project or submit your contribution at lakeerieink.org/creative-community-challenge/.
