Celebrating diversity is a way of life for the Beck Center for the Arts, located in Lakewood, one of northeast Ohio’s most diverse communities. But now it’s focusing specifically on diversity, equity and inclusion during its Diversity Celebration 2022, featuring arts programming that honors ALL people in the community.
“We strive to be a place that is inclusive, accessible, and safe for everyone, so we’ve decided to create an annual event which celebrates diversity,” says Beck President/CEO Cindy Einhouse. “We hope to build on this event in future years.”
It starts with Super Saturday 2 Beck Center of Saturday June 4 @ 10AM-noon, reaching out to the littlest members of the community (ages 1-8) and their parents to discover the arts programming Beck offers in music, dance, theater and art, with hands-on creative experiences. RSVP for free tickets. At 2:30-4pm that same day there’ll be storytelling and poetry reading where readers of all ages and experience levels can bring original poems to share, with a focus on what diversity means to you. There’ll also be poetry and passages you can choose to read if you don’t have anything of your own. It’s free. RSVP for a time slot.
Upcoming events include performances of The Legend of Georgia McBride, about an Elvis impersonator-turned-drag queen, which runs through June 26, with a post-show reception following the June 5 performance with special guest state senator Nickie Antonio and a post-show talk back following the June 10 performance hosted by local drag artist Dr. Lady J.
