David Mayfield Bluegrass Parade Returns to Riverdog Barn

Sat 5/25 @ 7:30PM

Kent/Akron native David Mayfield was born to be a musician. As children, he and his sister Jessica Lea Mayfield played in their parents’ touring bluegrass band.  As teenagers, both launched their own careers, exploring new musical directions, especially Jessica, who has had a productive career as an indie rock musician with some hints of Americana and country.

David, who plays acoustic guitar, mandolin and sings, has also delved into indie rock but his roots are much more solidly in the bluegrass music he grew up with. He spent several years touring with progressive bluegrass band Cadillac Sky and then about a decade in Nashville as a session player before moving back to Northeast Ohio.

For the past decade or so, he’s also has his own ensemble called the David Mayfield Bluegrass Parade with various players including mainstays two-time National Bluegrass banjo champion Steven Moore and upright bassist Graham Bell, currently joined by Keith Wallen on mandolin and Ryan Wallen on reso-guitar; all join him on vocals.

The band recently signed to Mountain Fever Records and has been in Mountain Fever’s studio in Willis, Virginia this spring recording an upcoming release, with Mountain Fever artist Amanda Cook producing.  Maybe you’ll get a sneak preview when the band comes back to Lorain Coiunty’s Riverdog Barn, a regular stop for them, this weekend. As always, you’re welcome to bring a cooler and picnic basket and kick back before the show to get in the mood.
