One of the things the Cleveland Institute of Art teaches its students is how to present art. In its course “The Role of the Artist as Producer,” the students create their own exhibit in all its stages: art-making, conception, curation, and the nitty-gritty of putting on a show, from locating a venue to promoting the show.
This year’s show is called Matters of Time and it will be presented over a three-day weekend at Waterloo Arts Café in North Collinwood to “explore ways we make time tangible.”
Looking back at the COVID year, the 14 juniors putting together the show looking at how we measure and value time. Each artist built their project from a list of anniversaries and “associated materials.” and anniversaries would be celebrated before the pandemic. Artists involved in the show are Duriel Anderson, Ewuresi Archer, Mak Byerly, Paxton Enstad, Liana Gonzalez, Eliza Karp, Meg Lubey, Howe Fun Lye-Starks, Lucian Mykel, Jay Peperone, Alyssa Radakovic, David Ross, Sebastian Schenz and Owen Tollon.”
A virtual opening reception happens on Friday April 16 @ 7-8pm. After that, viewers can see the show in person Saturday April 17 @ noon-6pm and Sunday, April 18 @ noon-4pm. Get details at the show’s Instagram account @MattersOfTimeShow.
