Celebrated Concert Pianist Emanuel Ax Performs All-Chopin Program in Akron

Polish-born Canadian-American classical pianist Emanuel Ax, now 71, has built a stellar international career sine he began winning major piano competitions in the mid 70s. Since then the New York-based musician has played all over the world, at major festivals and with celebrated orchestras, partnered in chamber ensembles with other world-class musicians, recorded dozens of albums and snagged numerous Grammys. He’s recorded music by great classical composers  as well as contemporary composers ranging from tango great Astor Piazzolla to John Adams whose piano concerto Century Rolls he debuted in 1997 with the Cleveland Orchestra and recorded with the Orchestra for nonesuch Records.

Ax will be the guest of Akron’s Tuesday Musical for an all-Chopin solo concert at EJ Thomas Hall where he’ll play a series of short pieces by his fellow Pole. Steinway concert pianist Caroline Oltmanns, a professor at Youngstown State University, will offer commentary.
