Northeast Ohio flute player Herb Wilborn Jr., a native of Maple Heights, has built a reputation for himself in the popular (though often maligned, despite usually being played by skilled, trained musicians) genre of “smooth jazz,” a blend of jazz, pop & R&B which features familiar or familiar-sounding melodies played in a warm, relaxed and accessible style. He’s opened to many of the top artists in this genre including Najee, Herald Albright and Grover Washington Jr.
