Northeast Ohio’s Ballet Excel Ohio is a youth pre-professional company that offers training and performing opportunities for dancers potentially interested I pursuing the artform as professionals. Founded in 1975 by Nan Klinger, the company is now run by her daughter Mia Klinger.
This week its company is presenting its two-act version of the beloved fairy tale Hansel & Gretel at the Akron Civic Theatre, making use of the classic music by German composer Engelbert Humperdinck who wrote the music for the opera version of the story, his best known work.. This version goes easy on the scary elements and focuses on how the brother and sister defeat the witch, free the other children she’s captured and reunite with their parents, so it’s appropriate for ages five and up.
