One thing Cleveland’s got plenty of is vacant lots. Years of neglect and foreclosures led to crumbling buildings, many of which were eventually demolished. Parts of Cleveland’s inner city have so much vacant land you’d think you were in rural West Virginia or Kentucky. There are over 30,000 of them!
So the Western Reserve Land Conservancy has come up with a plan called Ground Work, which it describes as “a collaborative land preparation platform that honors the history of the urban landscape by restoring the land and laying the foundation for a vibrant future. Ground Work transforms vacant land into personal, practical, and beautiful green spaces.”
Are you a Cleveland resident who looks out your window and sees vacant lots? Do you want to do something to transform them into neighborhood assets? Join a Zoom meeting to learn how you and your neighbors can plan and develop a project that will enhance your street and what resources are available to do so.

Greening vacant lots is a valuable way to stimulate community involvement among neighbors! It’s environmentally and aesthetically valuable, too!
