Les Delices’ SalonEra Looks at Music in the Year 1500

Mon 2/21 @ 7:30PM

SalonEra, the twice-monthly online offering from Cleveland chamber ensemble Les Delices, returns this week with “Circa 1500.”

They remind us of the changes happening in this mid-Renaissance era with new discoveries in science and technology, world exploration bringing together different cultures and advancements in the visual arts. “Music was similarly transformed as the music publishing industry exploded onto the scene, compositions reached new sonic highs (and lows), and instrumental virtuosity took flight,” they remind us.

Canadian lutenist Estaban La Rotta and Scott Metcalfe, artistic director of the Massachusetts-based blue Heron Renaissance choir, will be on hand to talk about how music changed during the Renaissance and share recordings and performances of music dating from around 1500 by composers such as Josquin des Prez, Hayne van Ghizeghem, Marco Dall’Aquila and the ever-popular “Anon.”

It’s a $10 suggested donation. Go here for more info and to hook up.
