Akron vocalist Tracey Thomas made her mark on the scene when she fronted the much-revered new wave band Unit 5 in the late ’70s and early ’80s. She dropped out of the scene for a number of years when she had her family, but returned in 1994 with Standing Alone, the first of a series of solo albums that drew on her wide-ranging musical tastes: rock, folk, jazz, classic country. She’s done bluegrass and Billie Holiday projects.

She’s working on her 10th album right now. But in the meantime, she’s invited some of her musical friends to come celebrate her 40 years in music with her at Jilly’s in downtown Akron. Guess include her nephew guitarist Ryan Williams who’s in the band Red Sun Rising, some of her former Unit 5 bandmates and guitarist Marc Lee Shannon from Michael Stanley & the Resonators.
