Fri 8/12 @ 8-10PM
Three members of Cleveland’s sound art/experimental music scene have put together a series of performances, taking place in a venue that’s simultaneously mainstream and offbeat: the loading dock of MOCAcleveland.
Curators Andrew Auten, Lisa Miralia and David Russell Stempowski have drawn together sound artists from the area and outside it for three diverse evenings that will offer both sonic boundary-pushing and elements of performance art.
The series opens with three artists who combine improvisation with composition. Tashi Dorji, originally from Bhutan and now living in Asheville, North Carolina, does so using his guitar in highly personal ways. Percussionist Joe Tomino expands the range of his musical craft through use of electronics, while Dandelion Moon — a collaboration of Andrew Auten, Nathan Mahan, Robert Darkmatter and Ellen Wurtzel — adds text and re-interpreted and re-purposed lyrics by female songwriters to their mélange of sound. Amanda Lee will provide video projections for the evening.
The show is free and open to all. Admission to MOCA is discounted to $5 on Fridays from 5-9pm so come early and see the Mark Mothersbaugh show Myopia, whose themes the Loaded series is playing off of.
Subsequent Loaded shows take place on Fri 8/19 and Fri 8/26.
