Every December, the Ohio City Singers emerge from hibernation and take to local stages.
The ensemble was founded by noted local singer/songwriter/guitarist Chris Allen when he joined with a group of musician friends at a party at a holiday party as the “Ohio City Singers,” just for fun.
Probably none of them thought they’d be still be doing it some 15 years later, but here they are, and with five albums under their belt. One thing that makes their performances different from the average holiday gig is that they’ve created a whole repertoire of new original holiday music instead of just rehashing the classics, giving them a 60-song catalog.
And the band contains plenty of talent to bring new tunes to life, including a bunch of heavy hitters from area bands: multi-instrumentalist/ vocalist/songwriter Brent Kirby, singer/songwriters Chris Allen and Matt Sobol, blues guitarist Austin “Walkin Cane” Charanghat, producer/musician Don Dixon, Bellows accordion player Meredith Pangrace, keyboardist Doug McKean, bassist Dave Padrutt, and vocalist Kelly Wright.
They’ll be taking the indoor stage at the Rock Hall on Saturday December 17, a great opportunity for fans who weren’t quick enough to snag a ticket at one of their other sold-out December gigs.
Tickets are $25, which includes admission to the museum. The café will be serving holiday themed beer, specialty cocktails and snacks during the show and the Museum store will be open for last-minute holiday shopping.
Fans take note: the show, originally scheduled for the evening of Saturday December 17, was moved to the following afternoon due to a Browns game taking place Saturday.
