Sat 4/29
Saturday April 29 is the 10th annual Independent Bookstore Day across the country, and there’s a lot to celebrate. Despite the gloom-and-doom predictions of the disappearance of locally owned bookstores due to big chains and Amazon gobbling up market share and the even more dire predictions about heir fate following the pandemic, the number of small bookstores in the U.S. is actually growing.
Some bookstores will be having special events to celebrate such as sales, author signings and literary games, others will just have shelves overflowing with intriguing volumes you never would’ve discovered on Amazon. As with Record Store Day, there’ll be elusive indie bookstore merch but it won’t be as competitive as a Taylor Swift exclusive: just neat little thing such as sticks, pencils and limited edition prints.
