In 1966, the bones of a mastodon were unearthed in Fairlawn, just outside Akron. He was dubbed “Little Horatio.”
Now the Summit Metroparks are marking the 50th anniversary of that find with a family-friendly “Unearth Day” at the F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm Visitors Center. It may not be dinosaurs, but it should still be fun, with a presentation about these elephant-like animals who lived 10,000 years ago, activities and games. Family-friendly caveman costumes are encouraged.
